Poker is a family of card games that share betting rules and usually hand rankings. Its history is a matter of debate. One of the earliest known games to incorporate betting, hand rankings, and bluffing was the 15th century German game Pochspiel. Poker closely resembles the Persian game of as nas, though there is no specific description of as nas prior to 1890. Poker is continuously gaining popularity as more and more people are playing the game, and as more and more poker rooms are being established. Poker has reached the U.S. state of Montana, thus, the rising fame of Helena poker rooms.
Helena was established on October 30, 1864, following the discovery of gold along Last Chance Creek by the “Four Georgians”. The city’s main street is named Last Chance Gulch and lies close to the winding path of the original creek through the historic downtown district. The town was originally named “Crabtown”, after John Crab, one of the “Four Georgians”. As other miners arrived and the town expanded, the name was changed to a more appealing title.
In a poker tournament, each participant must put up a certain amount of money as an entry fee. The number of participants also ranges from tournament to tournament, with anywhere from ten to five hundred players or more. There are also tournaments out there that don’t even have an entry fee. Known as free roll tournaments, they are hosted by casinos that are trying to get traffic to their card room.
